About MISA Ontario

MISA Ontario was established in the mid-1970s to assist municipal government representatives and others interested in the effective use of information technology to provide better and more cost-effective services to municipal taxpayers and clients.

As a not-for-profit incorporation, our objectives are:

  • To promote and provide leadership in the efficient and effective use of municipal information systems and technology;
  • To provide a forum for the interchange of information between municipal representatives, other levels of government, private industry and interested persons or groups, leading to the more efficient use of municipal information systems;
  • To facilitate strategic alliances between public and private sectors leading to the development of more effective municipal information systems;
  • To provide a formal interface between those working with municipal information systems and other levels of government for the purpose of exchanging information.

MISA Ontario has about 100 municipal members and 70 associate partners.

Information Security Forum

MISA Ontario is a member of the Information Security Forum or ISF, the world’s leading authority on information risk management. Through membership, so are you.

All MISA Municipal Members are entitled to the benefits provided by the ISF, including research papers and reports, tools and methodologies. The ISF is also a forum for knowledge and information exchange. It provides free education in the form of a one- or two-day seminar, usually twice a year, in eastern North America.

More than 300 professionals and managers within the MISA Ontario membership have taken advantage of these services and have access to many useful tools and reports provided by the ISF. If you have information security initiatives under way or are seeking information to develop an information-security strategy or policy, the ISF is a valuable resource.

Municipalities interested in finding out more should contact Richard Langley As the MISA Ontario representative for the ISF, Richard will be delighted to provide you with more information and set you up with access to the valuable array of services provided.

For more information on what the ISF does, visit the Security Forum website.
